FT: “Ecolab Acquires Online Training Provider Lobster Ink”
The Financial Times reports on Ecolab Inc.’s successful acquisition of hospitality-focused training firm, Lobster Ink.
Lobster Ink is a Renovata client; indeed we conducted the Executive Search for CFO, Maarten van Gool, who was instrumental in ensuring that the business was structured to be fit for sale. Lobster Ink is a leader in applied learning science, offering high-quality training and learning experiences through a software as a service (SaaS) platform to meet the unique needs of the hospitality and foodservice industry. Sales were approximately $24 million in 2018.
Terms of the deal have not been announced, but the FT notes the match between the two businesses: Ecolab’s core business is products and services for food safety, hygiene and water management. The companies share an overlapping customer base and Lobster Ink gives Ecolab a training tool that’s ready-to-go across Ecolab’s operations.
Ecolab COO Tom Handley says, “Training is a cornerstone of Ecolab’s operating model. This acquisition strengthens the training opportunities and learning experiences we offer, adding options including online learning content that can be accessed by customers at any time on any connected handheld device to help ensure proper hygiene, food safety procedures and other critical processes are followed.”
In joining the Ecolab family, Lobster Ink is now part of a business with $14BN in annual sales and 48,000 employees in 170 countries.
