Gary Higham takes WonderBill VP Eng. role following search by Renovata
Founded in late 2016, London’s WonderBill is rapidly becoming the modern consumer’s champion; making managing utilities and other consumer services easier and cheaper than ever. We are delighted to announce the latest appointment at this fast-growing business; where after a successful search by Renovata, Gary Higham has taken the role of VP, Engineering.
WonderBill is the easy way for consumers to manage their household bills on mobile. After a hassle-free adoption process (adding bills is simple), users get a visual dashboard of their bills and outgoing payments. From that come instant recommendations – relevantly based on actual usage – for better deals on household utilities. Switching is also made frictionless. WonderBill therefore makes managing finances easier, lowers the barrier to switching providers, and encourages financial discipline by helping consumers to forecast their upcoming expenditure. It represents a real threat to the billion-pound price comparison business. WonderBill has been incubated by Shell Technology Ventures, the fuel and energy business’ commercialization and R&D hothouse behind other digital products like FarePilot (a profit optimizing tool for taxi drivers) and Shell’s own pay-at-pump functionality.
Gary’s career, initially as a software engineer and then manager, has consistently delivered world-class consumer-facing digital services. At quad-play market-leading ISP, TalkTalk, Gary developed a core range of real time telecommunications products. In four years at the BBC he delivered multiple applications for BBC TV Platforms including the Olympic, News and Connected Red Button applications; and led the rebuild of the BBC’s flagship iPlayer product on connected TVs and games consoles. Heading up the Software Development Team for CBBC and CBeebies, he also led the rebuilding of the Children’s web portfolio from the ground-up. He then moved to The Hut Group, managing the engineering function for the Cheshire-based e-commerce giant behind brands like Zavvi, Glossybox and IWOOT; which achieved a turnover of 501M in 2016.
Reporting to CEO Shane Clifford, Gary will responsible for scaling the capabilities of WonderBill’s technology team and platform as it scales from early release to consumer-grade scale. He will manage recruitment and resource of the build team, foster a culture of innovation and drive an aggressive development roadmap.
WonderBill removes the hassle and stress of managing bills and helps customers ensure they’re getting a fair deal. By providing a single place to view and manage their household accounts, free of charge, WonderBill helps everyone keep on top of their bills and manage their finances.
Today, WonderBill covers some 40 utilities and services providers and only operates in the UK, but the company has big plans for rapid development once the UK proof-of-concept achieves traction. Today, and with no marketing activity, over 10,000 Brits already use WonderBill to manage their finances.
