Miles Williams joins JW Player as Chief Marketing Officer
JW Player, the world’s largest network-independent video platform, today announced the appointment of Miles Williams to Chief Marketing Officer, following a successful search by Renovata. Backed by e.ventures, Greenspring Associates and Greycroft Partners, JW Player has attracted $46.5M in investment, most recently a $20M Series D in early 2016. Reaching over 1.8 billion unique devices across 193 countries each month, JW Player offers an advanced and flexible, yet lightweight media player for publishing videos and streaming. It is designed for a consistent viewing experience across devices, codecs and playout environments, in addition to offering customizations that include advanced interactive functionality that appeals to users, advertisers and media owners.
Miles has spent over 20 years building and scaling profitable marketing organizations to grow brands; initially in the book trade as the industry transitioned online (Prentice Hall, Fatbrain, Barnes & Noble), where by 2010, he had risen to VP, e-Commerce for Barnes & Noble. Miles subsequently replicated his success as VP & General Manager, Bigstock – Shutterstock’s stock photography subsidiary – before becoming VP, Marketing for the parent company during its IPO. Most recently, he served as CMO of email marketing platform, Movable Ink. In all these roles, Miles has developed and then effectively leveraged the brand, optimizing traffic, conversion and revenue.
Reporting directly to Chief Operating Officer, Bill Day, Miles will design and execute JW Player’s growth and retention strategies via SaaS/e-Commerce and engagement with major publishing and media brands.
“We are thrilled that Miles Williams has joined JW Player as Chief Marketing Officer,” said Bill Day, Chief Operating Officer of JW Player. “Miles’ experience of developing both consumer and business-to-business brands, as well as driving all facets of growth using digital marketing best practices, is a perfect match as we enter our next phase of growth.”
Renovata says, “Miles has consistently worked with either challenger brands or established brands seeking to make their mark in new technology marketplaces; and taken them to the next level. From e-Commerce to SaaS and subscription models, he has an instinctive ability to communicate and monetize cutting edge propositions.”
