Renovata finds VP, Logistics and Operations for MakeSpace
Founded and based in space-poor New York City, MakeSpace is the market-leader in the ‘full service’ storage business. Renovata is delighted to announce the appointment of Jesus Flores del Bosque to the role of VP, Logistics and Operations.
MakeSpace provides storage (of physical items), pickup and redelivery, all for a price cheaper than traditional self-storage. MakeSpace customers don’t have to worry about muscle, square footage limits or getting a vehicle - they just use an app or website, which also includes the ability to track individual items. The business has raised over $60M in four rounds, the most recent being a $30M Series C in April 2017; investors include 8VC, Upfront Ventures, Harmony Partners along with actor Ashton Kutcher, rapper Nas, and basketball player Carmelo Anthony.
Jesus is a logistics and operations specialist with a balanced blend of technical and leadership skills. He began his career as an economic consultant for PwC developing optimal transfer pricing strategies for clients with transnational operations. Jesus subsequently joined Vitro, initially being responsible for accurately forecasting production volumes through statistical and data mining techniques, followed by a role in the finance department where he oversaw investor relations. Departing the field of economics and earning his MBA in Supply Chain and Operations, Jesus joined Amazon in 2013 and rose within a year to the post of Senior Operations Manager. During his time at Amazon, Jesus was responsible for running large fulfillment operations of upwards of 4,000 associates as well as the leading-edge robotics facility in the network. In 2016, Jesus launched Amazon’s largest capacity sortable Fulfilment Center at that time, breaking the network record of fastest inbound and outbound volume ramp. Jesus joins MakeSpace from L’Oréal, where he was Director of Operations and Supply Chain, leading the beauty giant’s Omnichannel strategy for physical distribution in the US.
Reporting directly to Co-Founder and COO Rahul Gandhi, Jesus will be responsible for two fundamental workstreams. First, he will drive efficiency across field operations, from fleet optimization to warehouse management by implementing technology throughout the delivery experience. Second, he will manage the deployment of analytics for predictive modeling and forecasting, to drive business value and contribute to the strategic expansion of the company.
MakeSpace applies the seamlessness of an app and website to the $34bn self-storage industry by keeping the ‘storage’ and jettisoning the ‘self’.
In addition to pickup and delivery from a highly service-oriented team of drivers and movers, and providing simple, monthly flat rate pricing, which never increases unlike traditional self-storage; MakeSpace’s app and website provide the consumer with the item locations and pictures of their stored items; thereby solving one of the big challenges of out-of-town storage ventures: knowing over the long-term where your things are stored! Originally operating in New York, the business has already expanded to Chicago, Washington DC and Los Angeles, and has several other locations scheduled for launch.
